Remo Jovan Sunday, 20. August 2023 from Remo Jovan

Great Sea

First multi-day tour to northern Germany

Now the time had come. Our first journey together and lasting several days was on the agenda. Emma, Idaho and Remo, the steering wheel operator, ventured out of the safe haven of Heidelberg into the big, wide world.

Why Emden?

I lived in Emden for a couple of years about 20 years ago and before I did, I visited the Great Sea between Emden and Aurich on a mini-vacation.

The landscape, the vastness, the perceived tranquility...perfect things for the first road trip with Emma.

I decided to make the journey in one go. If I am then from 2024 completely on tour, I can not imagine to drive over 500 km in one day. That does not have to be then also. Since I had a total of five days available this time, I wanted to spend as much time as possible at the Great Sea, of course.

The first night I spent in a parking bay at a country road outside Emden.

It wasn't until the next morning that I noticed the delicate smell emanating from an agricultural manure pile practically right next to Emma. So, keep your eyes open when choosing a parking bay😂.

Pitch, campground or free?

In Germany there are very few possibilities to stand "free". But of course there are...for this first road trip and given my inexperience, I decided to stand on an official pitch.

There you pay a daily fee and possibly extras like a shower, laundry, etc..

In contrast to a camping site, which one books as a rule probably for a longer stay, one stands on a pitch usually only for 1-2 nights.

The pitch directly on the Great Sea was optimal, great facility, plenty of space, well maintained, nice neighbors.

Learn, learn, learn

For me optimal: in a "protected" area with a lot of competence around me to try out more and more things in my camper...gas stove on (yes, you gas / grill experienced, for you a breeze😂...for me rather prejudice / trauma coping🙈)...first own coffee in Emma from the reverse osmosis system...solar panels for power station try.

Thanks at this point to my two Swabian pitch neighbors, who were relieving and relaxed at my side, especially with my gas phobia.

Dealing with electricity

My very first plan was that I would be a content streamer in the camper.

Accordingly, I have planned my power on board.

I will not stream now, but produce enough content, which ultimately also requires a lot of power.

With the topic of electricity, you have to deal more intensively as a vanlifer, which is also good in my opinion. Learning to use your resources sparingly can't hurt.

When you are received so nice...

...you arrive but very happy back at his home base, even if I can already imagine longer trips with Emma.

Merle and Luisa brought me a delicious iced coffee to the Womo...many thanks you two😍!

After about five days on the road then ended my first road trip.

Conclusion: So far everything great, I learn a lot, meet and face the special challenges.

Until the next trip

Your Remo
